Sustainability

Te Pae has been designed to a NZBC Green Star 5-star rating and holds Toitū Enviromark Gold certification. The building incorporates the latest waste management systems and automatic controls to conserve energy.

At least 85% of the venue’s food and beverage needs are sourced from within Canterbury. All other produce is sourced from the wider South Island in the first instance.

All food waste is processed in their onsite GAIA dehydrator – which converts food waste into a nutrient-rich “soil food”. This is donated to the Canterbury Community Garden Association to share amongst their network of gardens. Food that is suitable to be donated is passed to Foodbank Canterbury to distribute.

Te Pae have committed to reaching net carbonzero. Their business vehicles are electric, including forklifts, lifters, booms and ride-on cleaning equipment. 100% of the energy used at Te Pae is from renewable sources. They also use software to monitor and analyse their energy outputs.
