Join David Downs for an entertaining session on boosting interactivity & decision-making in the boardroom
Board meetings can engaging, fun, and entertaining…but frankly, often they are not. If you’re keen to hear some observations and suggestions on how and why board meetings don’t need to lead to bored directors, this event is for you.
Board director David Downs CMInstD will present a light-hearted look at improving the interactivity and creativity in your meetings, and getting a better output. David believes that with a bit of thought, you can improve the decision-making in your meetings, and make your time more productive. Whether you are an experienced, or a new director, you’ll learn a few tips, but really it’ll be about sharing what NOT to do.
As an experienced board director, but also a master storyteller, David will dip into his experiences with private and public sector boards, as well as his role as CEO of the New Zealand Story, to ensure an entertaining and informative session - well worth your time, beyond the CPD credits.
Bring a sense of humour and a willingness to think differently. Numbers are limited.
We welcome Giselle McLachlan CFInstD, governance expert, experienced director, CEO, IoD Course facilitator, and Wānaka local, to chair this session.
David is CEO of The New Zealand Story and a director on several boards, including as chair of The Icehouse.
David is an ex-comedian, TV and radio actor, semi-finalist for New Zealander of the Year, cancer survivor and a published author of books No.8 Re-wired, No.8 Recharged, A Mild Touch of the Cancer, and Silver Linings.
Giselle is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IoD), an experienced company director, chair, CEO and previously a lawyer for over 30 years. Her roles have been varied – from the agricultural sector through to being a partner in a law firm as well as General Counsel for New Zealand’s largest insurance company. She has held many board roles, notably serving as a director for four years on the Earthquake Commission (including its audit committee), the H&J Smith Group and the Medical Council where she also chaired the audit committee. Giselle is currently the chair of an international agri-tech consulting business AbacusBio Limited and sits on a project governance board.
Living in Central Otago, Giselle has recently completed a Cambridge University Sustainable Business Management course which strengthened her desire to help businesses towards a more purposeful, sustainable and resilient future and believes governance brings long term strategic thinking and new ways of doing things – great governance is the enabler that will lead to a stronger New Zealand.
She is passionate about growing healthy food and healthy businesses too.
