Overview

Simon Bridges is well placed to offer a perspective on governance in the context of government boards. He will share his personal governance journey, what it is like being on a government appointed board, and why you should consider this in your own governance portfolio.

Simon is a former lawyer and politician, having been a senior Cabinet Minister and Leader of the Opposition. Now based in Auckland, Simon is CEO of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, independent chair of the CC Group of Companies and chair of NZTA Waka Kotahi. Simon has also served on a range of other boards and advisory boards and has his own business interests.

Simon is a lively and engaging speaker and will want plenty of interaction from members. Bring your questions about governance issues that he faces in chair role of NZTA Waka Kotahi, in providing affordable, integrated, safe, responsible land transport, to meet the government’s objectives and provide the infrastructure that New Zealanders need.

Simon Bridges

A lawyer turned senior National politician, Simon held a raft of senior responsibilities in politics, including as Leader of the National Party.

Prior to Parliament, Simon started his career in a national law firm and was then a Crown prosecutor.

Simon has an LLB (Hons) and BA from Auckland University where he received a Senior Law Prize, and a Bachelor of Civil law from Oxford University.

Following his retirement from politics, Simon was appointed CEO of the Auckland Business Chamber. His most recent governance role is that of NZTA Waka Kotahi chair.
