Overview

Youth brings a different perspective and diversity of thought to the board table. This panel discussion facilitated by Auckland Branch committee member, Ed McKnight will touch on how these young directors entered into governance and they will share how they have navigated being in the room with those who are generally much older than they are. 

Our panel comes with a variety of governance experience from not-for-profit, start-up and government boards. 

Who should attend?

This event is for you whether you are already on a board or wanting to take your first step into governance. It is primarily aimed at those who are under 40 years of age, however all are ages are welcome to attend.

Ed McKnight

Ed is an economist at property investment company, Opes Partners, where he hosts NZ’s #1 business podcast – The Property Academy Podcast. Ed is a director of Q Theatre, and former chair of the Auckland Young Professionals. He joined the branch committee in February 2018.

Guy Alexander

Since joining his first board at age 19, Guy has served on several boards both in the non-profit and start-up spaces gaining invaluable experiences.  He is currently an independent director for AUT Student Association and Chair of the advisory board for VXT Limited's (Smart voicemail start-up).

In addition, Guy works for global software company Xero as GM, Global Enterprise Customers. In his downtime you'll find him with his partner Adrian or out on his road bike training for the Tour of Northland.

Naisi Chen

Naisi is currently a list member of Parliament and is deputy chair of the Economic Development, Science and Innovation select committee. Before entering parliament, she was the director of a business consultancy firm specialising in employment relations and HR matters. She sat on the board as youngest trustee in the history of Foundation North, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and Aotearoa Chinese Legal Support Foundation. She was the Vice President of the youth wing of the NZ Labour Party – Young Labour, Youth Advisory Group of Philanthropy NZ and Advisory Board of China Council.
