The impacts of climate change are increasing in scope, scale, and speed. The time to debate settled science or politics has passed. Organisations need to act. Directors must guide them.
A new guide titled ‘What difference can directors make?’ developed in partnership with KPMG New Zealand and the Institute of Directors’ for the Chapter Zero NZ initiative, provides insights for effective climate governance, based on interviews with 13 of New Zealand’s most experienced directors.
In this event, we will hear from a panel of directors featured in the report, alongside experts in climate governance, to understand more about the challenges facing New Zealand organisations and examples of how different companies are promoting climate action at their board tables.
Key themes to be discussed in this session include:
Dame Rosanne has worked as a company director for over 30 years in New Zealand and Australia as well as extensive work as a trustee in the arts community and tertiary sector.
Her corporate career within the forestry and manufacturing sector predominantly working in marketing and human resources through to the early 2000s when she embarked rather ambitiously and tentatively into Corporate Governance.
Rosanne describes her career as a director and trustee as exciting demanding and extraordinarily rewarding.
She is currently chairman of Briscoes, chairs two of AMP NZ staff Superannuation schemes and patron of Auckland Philharmonia.
She is a mother of two marvellous daughters Annabelle and Victoria and now the grandmother of five grandsons who also play a very big part in her life.
Rosanne received an OBE in 1993 for services to business, Women’s Suffrage Medal also in 1993 and DNZM for services to business and for not-for-profit in 2011.
George is a Professional Director and business co-founder. He is keenly interested in businesses that showcase the best of New Zealand products, such as Bremworth, Apollo Foods and New Zealand Frost Fans. As a de facto operating partner of Pencarrow Private Equity he enjoys operating in high growth environments where boards play an active role in business strategy. George is also a strong proponent of health and safety governance which allow people and businesses to thrive.
He is currently Chairman of Bremworth, Apollo Foods, New Zealand Frost Fans and Netlogix among others and is a Director of Arborgen and Hellers.
Laurissa is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. She has previously held senior manager, auditing and consulting roles with Deloitte in New Zealand and Deloitte Touche in London and was the Chief Financial Officer for Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.
Laurissa currently serves as a Co- Chair of Aotearoa Circle and is an Independent Non-Executive Director for Air New Zealand, Goodman Property Ltd and Accordant Group Ltd. She is the Chair of Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki Audit & Risk Committee. She also holds a role as Co-Chair for the Tourism Industry Transformation Plan for the Environment with MBIE and the Visitor Economy Adaptation Roadmap Aotearoa Circle workstream. Laurissa is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors and a member of the IoD's Chapter Zero NZ Steering Committee. Laurissa is of Te Āti Hau Nui a Pāpā Rangi (Whanganui) descent.
Dr Ehrhart has nearly 30 years of professional experience working within governments, the UN, civil society and the private sector for sustainable development. For the past twenty years, Charles has focused on the challenges of mitigating and adapting to climate change.
Charles co-leads KPMG New Zealand's climate change, decarbonisation, ESG and sustainability services. He also serves as KPMG's Global Head of Climate Risk, Resilience and Adaptation, responsible for enabling and coordinating the efforts of over 23,000 professionals dedicated to accelerating climate action around the world. He is a member of the IoD’s Chapter Zero NZ Steering Committee and in 2023, he was elected to the Governing Board of the Climate Governance Initiative.
