With additional funding in this year’s Budget, Inland Revenue (IR) will be carrying out more audits and investigations. It’s important that directors are aware of IR’s main risk focus areas and how business can proactively manage their tax risks.

This webinar will be presented by KPMG Tax Partners, Darshana Elwela and Edwina Ma who will cover:

  • What directors need to consider from a governance and risk management perspective

Darshana Elwela

Darshana leads KPMG New Zealand’s Tax Governance practice and has over 20 years of experience as a tax advisor and senior tax official with Inland Revenue. Darshana works closely with clients to help them comply with their New Zealand tax obligations and develop fit-for-purpose tax governance documentation. Darshana also leads KPMG’s Tax Policy Team, where he regularly interacts with senior NZ Inland Revenue and NZ Treasury officials, and Government, to resolve tax policy and tax technical issues.

Edwina Ma

Edwina leads KPMG New Zealand’s Tax Dispute Management practice and has advised on a broad range of tax matters. She is passionate about helping clients navigate complex tax challenges, manage tax risk, and achieve greater certainty through proactive engagement with Inland Revenue. Edwina has vast experience assisting New Zealand listed companies, multinationals, and high wealth individuals in resolving Inland Revenue audits and disputes, including negotiating settlements with Inland Revenue.
