Simon Wi Rutene

Simon currently works for Treasury NZ | Te Tai Ohanga as Principal Advisor in the Governance and Appointments Team advising the Minister of Finance and numerous other Ministers on appointments to 42 Crown company and entities, state-owned enterprises and statutory bodies. The G&A Team plays a pivotal role in shaping the governance of public entities and companies that are vital to New Zealand’s prosperity and contributing to New Zealand’s future. Collectively Crown entities make a huge contribution to the economy and New Zealand more broadly. Twenty-one of the Crown’s commercial entities employ about 28,000 FTEs and last year generated more than $16 billion in revenue using assets valued at more than $86 billion.
Simon Wi Rutene is an accomplished and decorated international athlete, company director, trustee, publisher, negotiator and an enrolled barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
Simon brings a breadth of academic training and various professional roles, combined with over 40-years’ experience, as an elite sportsman and governor. He is a four time Olympian and flagbearer for NZ at the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympic Games.
Simon has deep governance experience with Crown commercial boards, Iwi commercial boards, National and International Sport Organisations and Not for Profit boards. Simon is an active governor and a certified Master Expert governance practitioner. He currently holds roles as a Commissioner on various National and International Sports Bodies. He is a FIS Technical Delegate and Oceania Commissioner on the World Governing body Federation du Snowsports, and on its various committees, including Legal and Safety. He is a trustee and the Chair of the board of UNICEF Aotearoa National Committee, a NFP charitable trust. He was previously a Ministry of Justice award winning Crown Negotiator of Treaty of Waitangi settlements.
Simon holds qualifications in Law and Commerce as well as a Post Graduate Certificate (Level 12) in Career Counselling Psychology for Elite Performers (Sport, Music, and Dance). He possesses wide networks in a range of diverse communities, including sport, corporate, government, Māori, and Pacific and global.
Sarah Ottrey

Sarah is a Chartered Fellow of the IoD and a graduate of the University of Otago. In Sarah’s 20-year executive career with Unilever and DB Breweries/Heineken she held senior marketing roles in New Zealand and internationally. Sarah created the Tui Yeah Right Campaign.
Sarah is currently Chair of Christchurch International Airport and The Whitestone Cheese Co, and a director of Skyline Enterprises Ltd, Mount Cook Alpine Salmon, Sarah Ottrey Marketing Ltd and a council member on the NZ China Business Council.
Past directorships include EBOS Group Ltd, Comvita, The NZ Public Trust, Blue Sky Meats, The Smiths City Group, Inland Revenue Risk Assurance Committee and Wellesley College and its Foundation as Deputy Chair and Chair.
Daniel Harmes
MInstD
Daniel Harmes is the founder and Managing Director of Platinum Recruitment. He holds several professional memberships and governance roles such as The Dunedin Wildlife Hospital. He operates within the executive vertical at Platinum Recruitment and strategically advises organisations and boards on recruitment and selection strategies.
He is passionate about creating cultures of success and ensuring that organisations have the right plans in place not only to attract but to retain talent.
Dean Delaney
MInstD
Dean Delaney is a Director at Platinum Recruitment. He holds several professional memberships and governance roles such as the Methodist Mission Southern and Business South. He is passionate about the recruitment industry and regularly shares market insights impacting a complex labour market at industry events.
He is also a regular contributor within the business community engaging on a wide-ranging list of topics from the current labour market, personal branding, LinkedIn, organisational culture, diversity and inclusion to name but a few.
Trish Oakley
CFInstD
Trish is Vice President of the Institute of Directors, a Chartered Fellow, and director of the IoD's board. She is an executive at Forsyth Barr Ltd and has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, working across marketing, product development and people focused initiatives.
Trish is currently Pro Chancellor of the University of Otago, and on 1 October 2024 will become Chancellor. She is co-chair of the Financial Services Council investment and KiwiSaver committee. She is also a member of the New Zealand Lotteries Commission, holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago, and is a member of Global Women.
