Overview

How to develop your governance pathway: "Ask me anything" series, chaired by Natasha Harvey and featuring local governors, who will share their personal journeys and lessons learned in a relaxed panel discussion. 

This first session includes contributions from past Emerging Director awardees Simon Lockwood, Claire van der Most and Kelvyn Eglinton offering a unique perspective on starting and advancing in the governance field.

Whether you're just beginning your journey or exploring new opportunities, this event will provide valuable insights into governance.


Simon Lockwood

CFInstd

 

Simon Lockwood is a Chartered Fellow of the IoD, the Waikato Branch Committee chair, a representative on the IoD’s National Council and part of the membership committee. He has worked in insurance for 27 years in both the UK and New Zealand and is Regional Branch Director of Gallagher Insurance.    


Simon is deputy chair of Enrich+ and Chair of Enrich+ Property Trust.  He is a Chair of the Finance and Risk Committee of Habitat for Humanity (Central North Island) Ltd, Deputy Chair of Wintec Student Resident Trust, and  presiding member of the Lottery Regional Grants Committee.  

Simon holds a degree in International Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing and  MBA from Leicester University.  In addition Simon is also an Executive Fellow of the University of Waikato and lectures on the MBA programme.

 

Claire van der Most

CMInstD

 

Claire has led teams for over 20 years across the Private, Public and For Purpose Sectors, in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She is a Chartered Member (CMInstD) of the Institute of Directors (IoD), was Waikato’s IoD Emerging Director for 2022, and has a Master’s degree in Industrial and Organisational Psychology from the University of Waikato.

In addition to her role at HMS Trust, Claire is a Board Member at Enrich Group, Enrich+, McKenzie Centre, and is an observing Board Member on the Waikato Regional Property Trust. Having worked with Board’s for over 17 years, Claire keeps an eye on the ‘big picture’ whilst ensuring things get done; and she understands and values the importance of relationships. She balances her positive energy with her caring yet pragmatic approach.

Making a difference in the lives of others makes Claire ‘tick’, and she believes in having fun in all walks of life. She recently completed a cake decorating course and is enjoying the opportunity to let her creative side come to the fore.

 

Kelvyn Eglinton

CFInstD

Kelvyn joined Craigs in January 2023, following 6 years as CEO of the Momentum Waikato Community Foundation, where he led the development of a $50m endowment fund and fundraised $80m for the Waikato Regional Theatre. Prior to this, Kelvyn spent 12 years in executive roles for the world’s largest mining company, Newmont Mining in Waihi, Perth and Jakarta. Kelvyn brings a wealth of leadership experience and an extensive network of relationships across the Waikato.

As General Manager, Kelvyn leads the Hamilton team to ensure the effective delivery of services to clients, and is establishing a regional strategy to significantly grow the Branch’s presence across the region and enhance its contribution to Craigs national business.

Kelvyn is a board member and chair of the New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Foundation, a chartered member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, a member of the Institute of Directors Waikato Committee, and a trustee of the Braemar Charitable Trust.
