Recording CPD
We automatically add CPD points for most IoD activities directly to your CPD dashboard. You need to record CPD points yourself for activities undertaken with other providers, and for less formal CPD activities like professional governance reading, giving back to the profession, viewing of recordings of live events, board development, and learning experiences.
CPD dashboard
Your CPD dashboard shows how you are tracking with CPD and how many points you currently need to meet the requirement.
We recommend you record on your dashboard your points for CPD activities with other providers and less formal CPD activities.
If you prefer not to use the dashboard you can keep a manual or separate digital record of your activity.
CPD records audit
You should record your CPD activity in case you are selected for an audit of your CPD records.
If you are selected for an audit, you need to produce records showing:
- date of activity
- provider – IoD, other provider, or less formal
- description of activity
- points allocated.
Each year, we randomly select a small number of members for an audit of their records. This audit is to ensure the integrity of the CPD system. It is not punitive.
The IoD registrar carries out the audit and reports to the council.
We select for audit members who have finished their three-year foundation period and members who are rolling on an annual cycle. Members are selected by their member number and their identities remain confidential. Member records are always treated confidentially and we handle all personal information, including CPD records, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
