REAP Eastern Bay of Plenty Board member Georgia Mischefski-Gray has won the Bay of Plenty Emerging Director Award 2022 from the Institute of Directors (IoD).

Whakatane-based Mischefski-Gray is on a number of boards including Tātai Ora, and Bay of Plenty Federated Farmers Management. She has also been Vice President for OUSA and on the governance group for Otago University Waste Management.

As the recipient of this year’s Emerging Director Award for the Bay of Plenty region, Mischefski-Gray will receive a range of development opportunities through the Institute of Directors (IoD) including mentoring with an experienced director and registration for the Institute of Directors NZ Leadership conference in 2023 – an opportunity to be inspired and learn from leading directors.

The Emerging Director Award was established to foster upcoming talent in governance and recognise individuals who have the ability to provide leadership in the business and community sectors.

The judging panel for the Bay of Plenty said Mischefski-Gray demonstrated a strong commitment to advocacy for young people and women and also illustrated a commitment and understanding on the importance of diversity and inclusion.

A representative for StellarBoard - part of the Stellar Secure Business Platform and long-time sponsor for the Emerging Directors Award, said this award is paramount and recognises the hard work and excellence the new generation of directors bring to the board table.

“We encourage all directors, past and present to look towards the future of governance to enhance the journey for our emerging directors.”

Mischefski-Gray will also receive a 12-month placement with not-for-profit board The ELMS, one of New Zealand’s oldest historical sites. The organisation said they appreciated the young director’s positivity and appreciation of the environment and her interest in Te Tiriti and co-governance.

“We believe this placement will be relevant and helpful for her future in governance. Georgia exuded a passion for strategy and the art of governance, a great insight into the role of being a good treaty partner.”
