Meet the board: David Glover
What was your first governance role?
My first executive directorship was at the age of 23 in the UK when four of us started our own advertising agency. It’s fair to say I was not aware of my full governance responsibilities. About 10 years later I became a non-executive director of the New Zealand ad agency association.
What is the best advice you received as a young director?
Governance is more about looking at the road ahead than in the rear-view mirror.
What has given you the greatest satisfaction in your boardroom career?
Helping hire and support CEOs to lead positive change.
What would be the title of your biography, and why?
“Creating the Future” – because that’s the philosophy that has enabled me to work across the world in a diverse and satisfying range of executive and governance roles and industries.
Who would you like to invite to dinner, and why?
Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison – then we could jam together afterwards (my alternative preferred career would have been to be a rock musician).
What keeps you awake at night?
The sound of weka on the hills above Whakatāne. Otherwise, I sleep well.
