Craig Stobo explores a board's role in overseeing crown entities and regulating financial markets.
Craig Stobo was appointed Chair of the Financial Markets Authority Board in May 2024. In this session, Craig will reflect on the role of a board in overseeing the work of a Crown entity and as a regulator of financial markets.
He will speak to the need for a regulator to constantly keep across changes occurring within its field, and in open dialogue with industry leaders to ensure the complex challenges and issues a regulator faces are well understood.
The importance of a board using its governance lens to look to the future will also be discussed. Craig will reflect on the FMA’s work to enable innovation through its FinTech sandbox.
Additionally, Craig will reflect on his engagement with international counterparts, and what New Zealand can learn from its peers in driving economic growth while ensuring consumers have trust and confidence in the Financial Services sector.
