Overview

Do you have skills and experience that would be useful to a board? Have at least 3 years’ experience in a senior management role, a professional business advisor, or sitting on an NFP board?

If you are a member of one of our branches and in the early stages of your governance career then come along to hear about the Emerging Director award from the organising committee and our current EDA recipient.

Manea Sweeney

CMInstD

Manea’s career has focussed broadly across environmental, planning and engagement in the Infrustructure industry, working across New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. She loves complex uncertain environments.

Manea is new to governance and won IoDs emerging director award for 2023.

She has served a 3-year term as executive director on the Tonkin + Taylor Group Board, is an observing Board Member of Experience Wellington, and is on the project Boards for Te Ara Tupua Alliance (delivering the shared path from Nga Uranga to Petone in Wellington) and the East Coast Recovery Alliance, delivering over $500M of rebuild in road and rail following cyclone Gabrielle.

She is a proud mum of a two-year-old, who provides more challenges (and joy) than all of her other roles combined. Manea is also undertaking her Masters in Maori and Indigenous Leadership through the University of Canterbury.

Rachel Farrant

CMInstD

Rachel Farrant is a partner at BDO Wellington Ltd and has over 25 years’ experience in chartered accountancy and business advisory services.

She currently holds the following governance roles: Chairperson: The Property Group Limited, Director:  Skellerup Group Limited,  Papa Rererangi i Puketapu Limited (New Plymouth Airport), Director and Audit Committee Chair: Fairway Resolution Limited.  Member of the IOD Wellington Branch Committee.

Murray Sherwin

CMInstD

Murray is an economist with over 40 years’ experience in a wide range of public policy and other roles, both here and abroad. He is a graduate of Waikato University (MSocSci Hons) and The Executive Program of the Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia.

His professional history includes appointments with the OECD, the Prime Minister’s Policy Advisory Group, membership of the World Bank Board of Executive Directors, Deputy Governor and Deputy Chair of the Board of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Director General and CEO of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Chair of the New Zealand Productivity Commission and Chair of the Innovation Partnership, a Google-initiated collaboration which explored opportunities for smart application of internet technology in NZ.

Murray’s current roles include Director of Scion, Trustee of the RBNZ Staff Superannuation and Provident Fund, member of the Advisory Board of Iron Duke Partners and Independent Advisor to the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee for its inquiry into banking sector competition.
