Mike McRoberts: “Allow yourself to go there”
A pathway between Māori businesses and investors will help form authentic partnerships, according to Mike McRoberts. Find out more.
It has been a year since the Institute of Directors (IoD) launched Hautū - a Māori cultural intelligence tool designed to support directors, boards, and anyone wanting to upskill their understanding of te ao Māori and develop basic te reo language skills.
Since the first two months of its release, the app has averaged 177 new downloads a month with more than five thousand downloads recorded at the end of June 2023.
Co-developed alongside Kiwa Digital, Hautū which means to lead or to guide, has provided a practical and easy to use tool for the director community.
IoD’s CEO Kirsten Patterson is delighted with the results, with Hautū being used as a resource to enhance and support the voice of directors in building their competency and literacy in te reo Māori.
“We are delighted with the feedback from our members and we are also happy to see it being used beyond our membership and by the community at large, is really exciting to see. We are happy to be giving back and also supporting people to build their cultural intelligence,” Patterson said.
She adds that businesses and boards have asked for support in more recent years. We have also seen a need for those coming up through leadership roles and working across a range of organisations including SMEs and not-for-profits. She says the app is helping them to feel comfortable and competent in a space that is changing.
“It has been a gift to work alongside Kiwa who helped us build the app and we’re excited to move it forward,” she says of the new assets being added to Hautū this month.
Further updates on the app are now live and include a new waiata section with translations and recordings, more karakia options, an updated Iwi map section and a new te reo date creator.
The app is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store by searching: Hautū
